How It Started

MetroAI began as the vision of three young Somali entrepreneurs Saeed Omar, Abdikarim Hussein, and Jibril Omar

—who saw a need to address the educational challenges facing students in Somalia. With firsthand understanding of these issues, they recognised that limited access to resources and an outdated system were restricting students from realising their full potential, especially those in rural areas and underserved communities. Inspired to create change, they set out to design a digital solution that would make quality education accessible to every Somali student, regardless of their background.

Our CEO, Saeed Omar, was particularly motivated by his own experiences. Spending a brief period as a high school student in Somalia, he witnessed the lack of educational infrastructure and support, which contrasted sharply with the resources he later accessed as a university student in the UK. This disparity highlighted the need for a solution that could bridge the gap between what was available in his home country and the opportunities he had abroad. Saeed’s journey instilled in him a sense of responsibility to bring back a system that could uplift students in Somalia and provide them with a solid foundation for success.

From this drive for educational equity, MetroAI was born. Working collaboratively, Saeed, Abdikarim, and Jibril crafted MetroAI as a digital learning platform that would not only deliver high-quality, curriculum-aligned content but also empower students and educators with the tools to navigate an increasingly digital world. Together, these young founders are committed to transforming education in Somalia and the broader East African region.
